This online game was one of the games that could be played on Sierra's online gaming service, ImagiNation Network or INN. There is still a group of "Yserbians"
(www.yserbius.org) trying to re-launch the game online. They have the Tavern working again. A fan based project is working to to recreate
the ImagiNation Network, ImagiNation Network Revival.
Like many of the later Sierra games, Fates of Twinion may have installation problems with the installer not fuctioning on newer PCs or under Windows XP/Vista.
Many of the commands used in old BATCH files don't work under Windows XP. Additionally, 16-bit programs do not work under 64-bit versions of Windows. In addition, 64-bit Windows is missing the NTVDM, the Windows NT DOS emulator used to run DOS programs. Try mounting an A: drive and a C: drive in DOSBox and then install the game in DOSBox.
Audio problems are common in the later Sierra DOS SCI games. There's no single fix for all these games.
Solution 1 (preferred):
Play the game in DOSBox. It also will work with the MT-32 sound module, if you are fortunate to have one.
Use VDMSound. The game work well with VDMSound. The sound will be as good as your audio hardware, and as with DOSBox, it works with the MT-32 sound module.
Play the game with FreeSCI, a third party Interpreter for Sierra's early SCI games.
Solution 4 (DOS/Win9x):
Install DOS drivers for your soundcard. Without DOS drivers installed you won't have sound in a DOS window in Windows 9x. If you can't find DOS drivers for your soundcard, there is an alpha (developmental) version of VDMS that you can try.
There are a couple of bugs that Fates of Twinion has that are not speed dependent.
Apply this patch.
