Sierra Sound & MIDI Utilities

Some of your audio problems in your games might be solved by simply using an updated Audio Driver for your game,but, sometimes you might need more help. Here are some audio utilities that may help solve some of the other problems you might encounter with some Sierra games. Some might also be useful in getting a game to work with a special configuration you're trying to use.

Sound Card Emulators

VDMSound
A free audio hardware emulator for DOS programs or games. Older games running under Windows 2000/XP may have no audio. This will give you sound.

SoundFX
A commercial Sound Card Emulator for Windows 2000/XP. $39.00, An evaluation version of SoundFX is available for download.

Munt Roland MT-32 Emulator (Windows Driver)
A MIDI driver for Windows that emulates the old MT-32 Sound Module.

SoundBlaster Driver Patchers

GOSiERRA 3
A small sound driver patch that helps restore digital output on faster (Pentium and above) PC's. Install to the game directory and follow the on-screen Instructions. Copyright ©2000 Kiewitz.

SoundBlaster patch
This SoundBlaster patch, SBSIERRA.EXE by Kalgon - Black Bird Entertainment, fixes the SB autodetect bug with fast machines above 486

MIDI Utilities

Putzlowitsch's Vista MIDI Mapper Control Panel - A repalcement for the missing MIDI Out device selection in the windows Sound Control Panel applet.

SOUND BLASTER MIDI PORT UTILITY
This utility by Anders Olsson will modify Sierra games to run on an MT-32 using a SoundBlaster (or compatible) card as the MIDI interface.

SIERRA MIDI PORT CHANGER
Benjamin Carter's MIDI Port Changer changes to any port number for sound cards that use a MIDI port address other than 330H.

General MIDI Patch
Sierra 's after-market support for General MIDI, EMU Proteus/1, Roland D110, and Roland D10, D20 series synthesizers. Gives General MIDI support to EcoQuest 1, Hoyle 3, Leisure Suit Larry 1 VGA, Leisure Suit Larry 5, Robin Hood: Conquest of the Longbow, Space Quest 1 VGA, Space Quest 4, and Mixed Up Fairy Tales

MIDI for AGI Games

These utilities convert the PC speaker sound in the AGI games to MIDI. Hear all three MIDI voices (not just the single voice that your PC Speaker can play) and sound effects through your soundcard.

SIERRA AGI MIDI UTILITY
A patch utility from Anders Olsson that converts audio in Sierra's early adventure games to MIDI.

AGISB 03
Another patch, to play all three voice music and sound effects via a SoundBlaster or AdLib card for Sierra's AGI games.
