RANT
My new PC arrived today and I eagerly installed Dragon Age on it...
... only to have the game crashing after every five minutes or so. It turned out that this is a common ATI problem and the only fix I found is to downclock my graphic card and boost the fans' setting, otherwise the game will crash continuosly and randomly, prompting me with a black screen and a tiny blue box saying 'Power Saving Mode'. After that, my machine automatically reboots.
Oh, I'm so happy I went with ATI and not nVIDIA. Does anyone know where I can send a bombing letter to them? I feel the urge to destroy one of their building. Oh, and it's not a thing only of my GPU (5870 HD), but of almost every ATI GPU, as testified by the seventeen pages long thread over at Bioware.

Re: RANT
If there are that many people that are having issues with the game I would assume that there will be a patch for it before too long.

Re: RANT
I hope so, because I'm not particularly happy in having to manually downclock my GPU every time I want to play the game

Huh. That's interesting. I have an ATI Radeon 3870 HD and so far Dragon Age runs perfectly.AndreaDraco wrote:My new PC arrived today and I eagerly installed Dragon Age on it...

Is there a way you could create a pre-defined setting that temporarily underclocks the video card every time you load up DA?AndreaDraco wrote:I hope so, because I'm not particularly happy in having to manually downclock my GPU every time I want to play the game
"Er, Tawni, not Tawmni, unless you are doing drag."

Re: RANT
You could ask on the ATI/AMD boards.

Re: RANT
Sounds like the same problem I had with Mass Effect. Took a whole new G-Force 8800 to get it running.

Re: RANT
You can find the system requirements here, under the hidden tab. I've attached the dxdiag.txt.
As a side note, downclocking the GPU to 745 MHz (GPU Clock) and 1080 MHz (Memory Clock) seemed to have solved the problem.
At least I hope
