king's quest 6 media error message

I am having some issues getting my windows version of kq6 to work on vista. The problem is as soon as one of the high rez portraits comes up, it freezes and givs me this error message:

"cannot perform this operation while media data is still playing. Reset the device, or wait until the data is finished playing"

I can hear other voices like the narrator and people who don't have high rez portraits. But as soon as somebody with a portrait comes up I get that error.

Does anybody have any idea why this might be happening?

It sounds more like an error message from Windows than from the game. Do you have anything running in the background?

No there's nothing running, at least, nothing I can see or hear, unless there's something running in a way that I can't easily see or hear it.

Do you see a lot of icons in the notification (by the clock) area?

I tried closing down every icon possible and still I'm getting the same thing

Never mind I fixed the problem, I just changed my battery power from power save to high performance and it fixed it, strange...
