I wonder if the disc laser is misaligned. That tends to happen with the PS2. I know that's an entirely different system, but the basics are still the same (and have been since LaserDisc players in the 1980s).

Unfortunately, if you send a console to the manufacturer to get fixed, they'll just send you a refurbished unit. You won't actually get the same console back, which really sucks if you have saved games on the HD or you've somehow modified it in other ways.

Yeah ..I've got tons of games saved on there ..not to mention music as well...
but i may well have to get a refurbished one because I've only had that one for two years and I have so many games for it that I want to play.. and some i have yet to buy that i would like to play...so..yeah..

There are ways to fix your console without sending it to Microsoft, but that would require opening the unit and handling the components. It can certainly be done (and I'm sure you could find numerous tutorials online), but it also voids whatever warranty may still exist.

I thought about fixing my own PS2, but for some unknown reason, it actually fixed itself! No clue how or why, but I'm not complaining.

I have two ps2's..and one of them finally died over christmas..but the other one is still good..I'll probably just send the xbox in ...I'm not that good with the internal workings of the game systems..I'm just good at playing them....

Er - just to point out - if you send your XBOX360 to Microsoft you DO NOT send the hard drive. The HD actually comes out. You sent the rest of the unit, but the HD comes out - for that very reason (saved games, downloaded content, and what not).

Okay, cool. I didn't know that. I thought there might have been a different way to "save" your data, but if the HD can physically come out, that's even better.

I didn't know that about the hard drive either..thanks Tawmis..now maybe I'll be motivated to go ahead and send it in...
