Collector wrote:My copy of 1.65c does not have the RBT versions, just the AVIs. I would be interested in learning more about your copy.
Well it's a pink CD with a picture of one of the NPC on the left side. It looks like that I don't have the box anymore (years ago I was so stupid to throw away most of my games boxes

). Also possible that I bought it at a local flea market. About 15 years ago... But it looks like that this release isn't that rare. I found an old thread at the adventure gamers forum where someone had the same release with the rbt-movies:

The 10000 cycles was set to work around the fire cracker timer bug. NRS recently did a script patch to address it, but I have not incorporated it into the installer, yet.
I noticed that with a very high cycles setting I get sporadic short scratching noises ingame when a sfx gets played. I haven't tried to play with the sound buffer values in the resource.cfg yet to check if you can get rid of this effect.
Collector wrote:I would be interested in your German hack, too. The installer has support for the Spanish 2.00 and I could easily add support for the French. It would be nice to add German.
It's basically the english v2.00b version installed with the SHP DOSBox installer. I've extracted the font, message, aud-map and graphic files that differ from the german version from the resource.000 & altres.000 and copied it into the the v2.00b installation and Patches folder (depending on the file type). Apart from that I overwrote the english resource.aud file with the german one (it gets accepted because of the german aud-map files), exchanged the english voiceover in the rbt movies with german voiceover (wrote a little C++ tool with info from the scummvm repository) extracted from the german avi movies (sadly very poor quality) and modified two german menu graphics because the click-area of two buttons didn't match.
So I wouldn't call it a hack. My abilities are very limited.

But I don't know if it's ok to create an installer that makes a german v2.00b from the german v1.51 CD since you would have to add huge parts from the english version and I'm not sure about the rights here. Even if you can't make the added english files run as english version because of the now missing english resource.aud...

Thanks!

I could - but I'm on a quite slow internet connetion. I needed 45min to upload the 50MB Zip file with the mentioned alternate rbt-mvies.
And you can easily compare them yourself. All you need is an installed v2.00b version. Edit the dosbox.conf and set the cycles value to 20000 or do this ingame by using 'Ctrl'+'F12'. Then first play the intro, leave the game, go to the AVI subfolder, rename the existing files, copy the extracted rbt files from the Link in my first posting into the folder, start the game again and watch the intro to compare. I think it's noticeable.
Oh - it's not like I want to say we should use these rbt movies from now on. I just thought it's a kind of interesting that these version of the movies exist and that it's funny to speculate why they weren't used for a release. Since they are robot version 4 movies they are older than the robot version 5 movies that gets used in v2.00b.
