Hello everybody,
I recently got the strong urge to play this cool game again, but as so many others have some issues getting it to run on my new PC (Windows 7 x64).
I installed the games from the discs, and everything went fine (just quicktime couldn't be installed). I got the x64 1.2 patch and the compatibility patch from http://sierrahelp.com/Patches-Updates/P ... dates.html. Now applying these seems to cause some issues. The 1.2 patch seems to just skip the second part of the install (judging by the progress bar, though this could be common), and then when I try to apply the Win2K patch, it tells me to make sure "that you have version 1.2 installed". I checked the the SIERRA.INF and it weirdly only has 2 lines with "[Ident] PatchVersion=1.0.0.2".
When actually trying to run the game (with or without various compatibility modes), I get a dialogue box saying "Static" with OK and Cancel, as soon as I hit Play...
I also updated Quicktime to the newest version, which didn't change anything. Safe modes in quicktime didn't matter either.
I couldn't find any mention of such issues on the web, which is why I'm now posting here.
Best regards and any help would be appreciated.
QfG 5 on Windows 7
Re: QfG 5 on Windows 7
There are several problems with running this game on modern Windows, besides the official patch having trouble on x64 Windows. This game's original EXE does not like the Windows 2k/XP/Vista/7/8 core and will probably crash on launch. Updating QuickTime can exacerbate the problems of the outdated QuickTime APIs. Then there is the dragon breath damage crash.
The best way to get the game run on modern Windows is to to do a clean reinstall with the new installer. It will address all of these issues and allow for CD-less play after it is installed.

Thanks for the quick reply Collector!
That sounds promising, but I'm only getting the HotLinkingRedirect.html page when trying to download it. (also had an alert from anti-virus...)

Be sure that you are downloading it directly from the page I linked and do not use any kind of downloader. As to the AV alert, you can see that all 48 of these scanners say that it is clean

Re: QfG 5 on Windows 7
Ok thank you. Deactivating the AV worked. And now the game works just fine!
