NASCAR Racing 4

Post by prich12 » Tue Jul 16, 2013 2:51 pm

I'm new to this forum. I have a question, that hopefully someone can answer. I have an old Sierra Viper racing game that my Genius brand wheel and foot pedals works well with, recently I bought a Nascar 4 racing game and I can find under options, like the old Sierra game, that gives you the choice of wheel or joy stick, to get my wheel to work. Am I missing something ? I hope I'm in the right forum.

I am not familiar enough with the game to say. Is the interface USB?

Since it is a Windows game I would imagine that Windows would need to see the controller before the game could see it. Can you see it in the device manager?

Yes it is in the devise manager. It's just funny that the old Sierra race game picks it up but not the advanced Nascar 4.

Itook a quick look at it and noticed that there was a configuration setting for "Use software cursor". Did you try playing with that?

Where did you find "use software cursor" ? I went under options and clicked configuration, could not find it.

Apparently I'm not as savvy about these things. When you say run n4config.exe, where and how exactly do I run it.
Thank you for your help.

In the game's directory. there may be a shortcut in the start menu. Look for something that says configure.

Found it in the directory, but all it wants to do is config. the 3D. Why does it not have a choice for wheel or joy stick like the old viper racing game ?

It was a long shot. I just noticed the "Use software cursor" which is relevant to a controller. There is a papyjoy.sys that the game installs. Check your Windows directory for this file. I don't know if this would be relevant. There is also "vjoy.vxd" in the game's directory, but a VXD is useless on modern Windows.

Tried everything, no luck. I think I will give up. I don't understand why Sierra made it so difficult to play the game, with a wheel and pedals, when it is so easy on there old game "Viper racing". The best way to play and the only way I enjoy race games is with the wheel and pedals. Why would you want to play with pushing buttons ?

It is not Sierra's or Papyrus' fault. The game was written for a different operating system. APIs (how programs talk to the OS) change. At some point it is like they are no longer speaking the same language.

Do you recommend any other racing games that would work with my widows 7 PC program ?
