Agreed. The main reason that DOSBox seems to have better sound is probably more due to the audio settings in the ScummVM GUI are spread across different tabs with some overriding others, making it a bit confusing and more of a matter of trial and error. They now use DOSBox's AdLib code, but somehow it sounds better in DOSBox. I think that it is not so much a matter that is truly is inferior, but it is so easy to have other settings that interfere. I have seen scummvm.ini files so conflicted that it was easier to pitch the entire ini and start over.

As for the idiots that think that ScummVM sounds so much better, it is probably almost always a matter that they never setup the sound in the game itself in DOSBox. If it is a Sierra floppy game, that probably means that they are getting MT-32 music played through AdLib.

Never understood why the audio settings were in different areas in ScummVM, makes it difficult to know what is compatible, as well as what settings are needed to use to get the correct audio.

Strange that the Mixed Adlib/MIDI mode, and other incompatible options aren't disabled for the games that don't support it, seeing as other games have certain options disabled e.g., CoMI and The 7th Guest doesn't allow you to use aspect ratio correction.

Not sure if DOSBox is easier to set up, since I've just been using Sound Blaster for most of the games that I didn't use an installer from here, seeing as it's the only compatible audio for the default DOSBox settings when I'm installing the game, but the audio does seem to match the games when I listened to some of the music from the games online to see if they are the same, with the exception of Dark Seed I & II, since the music is in the CD.

In most cases you do not have to setup DOSBox, just the game. Part of the reason that the audio settings are in different places is that there global settings and per game settings. The per game settings should override any default or global settings. The global should apply its settings to all games unless overridden by a per game setting. However, I have noticed that this does not always behave predictably.
