Hello.
I've used the installer for the collector.s edition to install SQ1 VGA.
Starting the game, I see that the sound effect - "15 minutes till auto-destruction" weren't installed (sndblast.drv). Does anyone who have working sound effects can tell me what's the appropriate line in their resource.cfg file?
Is it audioDrv = sndblast.drv?
The line after the soundDrv line?
And, since i'm here, i've got 2 other questions.
1-Does the SQ3 install comes with the updated sound driver ("where am i now?")
2-Does the SQ4 install comes with NewRisingSun patch that allowed for both speech/text at the same time?
Thanks to all
Max
Space Quest I VGA - no sound effects - technical question
Re: Space Quest I VGA - no sound effects - technical questio
The installer includes the GMBLAST driver, which combines the GM and SoundBlaster drivers. This driver gives the advantage of the improved sound of General MIDI over AdLib and still gives you all of the digital sound effects.

Re: Space Quest I VGA - no sound effects - technical questio
Ok.
In order.
1-Yes, GMBLAST worked great for SQ1-vga.
By default, is it selected or is it SNDBLAST? (since I played in resource.cfg file, I can't remember the original option)
2-Installer does NOT include the updated driver for SQ3 though, it is easy to install manually.
3-I have tried to install the updated CD4 version from NRS. Installation works but, playing does not work (as nothing even opens now when I click on the sq4 batch file. Anybody else had that problem or, have a fix?
From reading another thread "SQ4 patch help (Skate-o-Rama)", I see now that it is an updated disk-version patch.
Anywoo, if you're like me and prefer both speech and text at the same time, you can press "space" during the first Gary Owens narration of the intro, then, choose "Skip". You'll arrive at the main game with speech and text at the same time.
Great jobs btw on the installer. I've decided to do a Space Quest marathon (including the fan games) and these installers makes all the hard work easy. Thanks!

Re: Space Quest I VGA - no sound effects - technical questio
The default for my installer is GMBLAST. There is no official GM driver for SQ3. Ravi's GM driver for SCI0 games is... wanting. New drivers included included by my installers for SQ3 are MTBLAST and SNDBLAST. Both of these will give digital sound effects. SNDBLAST is the default as most do not have MUNT and fewer still have an MT-32. Without either, if the game is set to one of the Roland drivers it will sound like crap.
The NRS SQ4 "update" is just a hacked copy of the floppy version that you can drop the CD's audio file into to use the floppy's graphics with speech. I do not have it available, either in the installers or for download since technically it is nearly a full copyrighted game and thus not legal distribute.
Have fun with the games.
