Please turn the caps lock off. It makes it unpleasant to read. I have never heard of such a bug, but the Sierra Utilities are pretty inconsequential and is under 6MB. It was mostly used to check for updates for any Sierra products on the user's machine. It has only a few inconsequential Registry entries. If you really don't want it and are afraid to uninstall it, just delete the "%ProgramFiles%\Sierra On-Line" folder. If you are having trouble with Half Life itself, you might ask on the Steam forum.

From that and a couple of other things that I found, the common element is Half Life. It also seem like it hit people that installed the game in the %ProgramFiles% directory instead of the default "C:\Sierra\Half Life". No older games should be installed in a system folder on modern Windows. I am not sure if there was some modification to connect to Valve instead of Sierra's FTP or what. It looks like the Half Life 1.1 patch was supposed to address this. Without installing Half Life to see what is different, the utilities are not planted too deeply into the system. As I said, it is just the folder (%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Program Files\Sierra On-Line) and a couple of minor registry entries and can easily manually uninstalled.

Code: Select all

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLLs
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Terminal Server\TsAppAllowList\Applications\432d46b2
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sierra OnLine
Are where the entries made by the usual Sierra Utilities. Do not delete those keys, but you can look in those keys for the individual entries made by the utilities that could be removed, but do not remove any other entries. You could also ask on the Steam forums since this seems to relate to Half Life. You may find others that have dealt with this before.

The key should be on the front of your CD case. As I said, you should ask on the Steam forums with help for Half Life.

Half-Life has the Sierra label but It's thoroughly a Valve game. Unlike Sierra, Valve is still very much around and has a vast community to help aid you through its probable issues.

Here's a direct link to the Half-Life message board on Steam's forums. You'll need to make an account to post there, but that's easy to do.
