Can't save in KQ 2 & 3 - and KQ 7 doesn't open

I have the King's Quest Collection and have it installed. There is no directory to save the game in KQ2 - the original Romancing the Throne.

When I type "save" it says: On which disk or in which directory do you wish to save this game? (For example, "B:" or "C:\savegame").

I get the same message when I try to save in KQ3.

I don't know what to put in the prompt. I've tried typing in the directory where the game is installed but it said there is no such directory.

Please help. I could not find an answer in the forums.

Also, KQ 7 does not open when I try starting it from the shortcut and the actual .exe file. Any thoughts?

For the prob with saving the old AGI games, I'd recommend just typing \ for the save game path and seeing if it lets you save then

It should start out with the back slash and you only need to hit enter first then name your save game, but to say what is wrong with KQ7 I need to first know if the original installer or the new SHP installer was used.

I got the save issue resolved. Didn't realize that all I had to do was hit enter and then name a save file.

As for KQ7 - I installed from the Collection cd's. The only thing I downloaded from here to install was Dos Box. Any ideas?

The original installer was intended for Windows 95-98. Install the collection on modern Windows with this:

Be sure to download the one intended for the collection you have.

Now I'm stuck again!

KQ7 opens and runs - but I lose the ability to move the cursor in the right 1/3 of the screen. For some reason, the computer mouse and the game cursor are not synchronized. When I move the mouse to the right side of the game screen, the cursor stops 1/3 the way over.

I re-installed the KQ Collection 2006 with the KQC2006 installer. I don't understand why it's not working right. Any ideas?!?!

Make sure that Auto lock is on.

got it figured out...grr! kinda hard to explain - but - the game cursor tends to jump...when it does, it's no longer in sync with the computer mouse. whenever I lose accessibility to a portion of the screen, I move the computer mouse to a corner where I can reconnect with the game cursor - and all is right with the world again. yea!

If you run the configure tool, you can select Auto Lock which will fix it. CTRL+F10 will release the mouse if you need to do something outside of the game without quitting.

Ah... good to know... of course, I've already played through the whole game. but if I get the KQ bug again, I'll keep this tip in mind! Thanks.
