A Game of Thrones (yes, Andrea, there's a PC game!)

Post by DeadPoolX » Mon Sep 12, 2011 11:44 pm

I checked Steam earlier today and apparently there's a game called A Game of Thrones - Genesis available for pre-order. From the description, it sounds like it might actually be a good game.

Saw that today as well. Pre-order for a discount. I have passed. I broke down and pre-ordered THE OLD REPUBLIC, and a bunch of my co-workers are all going for it as well. So I know a lot of my future gaming time will be tied up there.

And I still have not beat Gray Matter yet. Not even got far in it to be honest.

Me neither. I haven't even collected all the students necessary for that project at the beginning!

I've read about it in Martin's Not a Blog.

However, don't the graphics seem fairly outdated? When I saw their screenshots page, I thought: "This game popped out from that Wayback Machine."

It could be interesting, though. I'll probably wait for the reviews and then I'll buy it from my boyfriend (RTS are more his cup of tea).

Did you really just say that on a Sierra forum?

Well, old VGA is one thing, modern 3D graphics that are outdated even before the release date another one.

I know :)

Still, I'm baffled. I know that this game was put in production before the HBO series, but I think that an ASoIaF license could have got a better treatment.

Looks like a RTS. And the graphics look good, well, to me anyway. But the last RTS I played was Warcraft III.

The graphics look good to me, but then again, RTS games usually employ graphics that are somewhat beneath those of FPS or RPG. It probably has to do with the fact you're often looking at a large area all at once, complete with tons of soldiers and buildings.

If it's RTS, I know I won't get it. I probably wouldn't have anyway, but I hate RTS. I like turn-based strategy (specifically 4X games), which requires a lot more thought and planning. To me, all RTS turns into is "ZERG RUSH NOW!"

On that we'd agree. I thought I was pretty good at WCIII. I'd build stuff up - but never get far, because the players would just send wave after wave after wave after wave of fairly low minion characters, that prevent building anything - enough to hamper, while they pump out these minions, they take their VERY slow time to build bigger things (since resources are being dumped into these lower end minions, building is slow for them). It got to be too much.
