I agree with both sides. Yes, it's hard for people who haven't played a specific type of game before to wrap their brain around it at first, but it's also fun to laugh at them about it. :P I don't mind people laughing at me and calling me stupid for not figuring out how to exactly strategize and grind my stats properly in an MMO or an RPG. I laugh at myself! If you consistently can't figure things out after multiple experiences, though, especially simple things like a crowbar next to a door then the 'dumb' term is deserved in my opinion. lol

Heck, I remember playing Doom 1 & 2 so often, I ran through the games at hard difficulty without even getting scratched. Then Half-Life came out and I got pummeled. The beasties just got smarter and attacked from above too. NOT FAIR! Still think the guy who made the video exagerated. Perhaps he didn't like the feedback on his game. Pretty lame to mock the Q&A guys.

I don't think it's right to laugh at someone for their inexperience or mistakes. If you're not fazed by such comments, that's great, but a lot of people are and it really serves no purpose other than to humiliate them and possibly drive them away.

That's half the reason so many people feel online games are populated by nothing but assholes! No matter how much you like the game, the experience gets ruined by people using you as a verbal punching bag.

Now about the crowbar... you know, I probably wouldn't try the crowbar. Do you know why? So many Adventure games come up with ludicrous ways to solve problems, I doubt I'd see the obvious solution.

I don't mean laugh at them in a way that's insulting...just in that friendly way.

Yes! Yes yes yes! I never played WoW at all until I found that the game store had a complimentary 7-day promotional CD for $2. So I figured "I liked Warcraft, and even though I heard lots of bad things about WoW, $2 isn't much... let's play the damn game."

Bought, installed, played for about 10 minutes, then quit the damn game and never played it again. I don't like playing a game where (just about) everyone else on the server is a jerk. :P

I guess it's a good thing you never tried Ultima Online if you feel WoW was that bad!

I could go on for hours of my dislike of Ultimta Online... Worse designed game... worse written manual... worse... just about everything.

It could have only been made worse if they shoved that damn Wizard from KQ3 in the game.

(As a side note, I enjoyed the regular Ultima games...)

And yet... I loved UO, but probably for the same reasons you disliked it. My brother and I were a menace. To be fair, we initially tried to play the game as intended, but after getting murdered every time we stepped outside the city (thereby losing all of our belongings in the process) we decided to alter our playing style.

Oddly enough, the easiest, safest and quickest way to earn money was to STEAL books from the king's own library and sell them to NPC vendors. The guards never seemed to notice and I guess books weren't factored into the player-run economy. My brother and I made a fortune! :D

There was nothing I liked about Ultima Online. Absolutely nothing. Not the game. The UI. The ... Well, anything. And it wasn't even for the fact of getting murdered if you stepped outside the city. It was just poorly put together. In every aspect.
