King's Quest VI: Hole in the Wall impossible to get

I've tried everything. Or at least I think I did. But I am unable to get the hole in the wall from the wall to the chessboard land, and I never had this trouble before on any of my previous computers....

After playing the flute, I try to grab the hole, but no matter how, I just seem to be too slow. I turned the ingame speed all the way up, then all the way down, same with the CPU cycles in DOSBox, inserted the CD (I am playing the game from the Roberta Williams Collection, and I am on Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit), but nothing, nothing helps. The hole always runs back to hide behind the wall flowers.

As I am planning a Let's Play Together from this game, I would really like to get over this point. Thanks in advance for any help. Maybe even a savegame

Did the wall flowers dance?

Oh yes, they did. And as Alex stops playing, they still dance and the hole immediately hides behind the flowers again. Then the dance stops, and there's no chance to get hold of the hole

I just checked and decided to play through the sequence again... strange enough, but this time it worked... OMG
