This is why I have no qualms about using NoCD patched EXEs on the games that I buy to avoid the evils of the likes of StarForce. But this is not the only way that the publishers screw their customers. Having controlled releases is a tactic that marketeers force on us with the notion that they can build anticipation by drawing out the release date across different countries. By having such a disparity it only encourages piracy. Gray Matter is an example. By delaying the American release of the game, it only drove many to grab a bit torrent of the game.
