Glide Wrapper?

Post by IgnisLunae » Wed Feb 03, 2010 6:21 pm

I'm useing this glide wrapper to give me options for 800x600 (3dfx) but if i run it in that mode, the fps suffers tragically. I would rate it at about 2.0 fps... :Furious: as compared to my (guesses) 30+ fps in 640x480. I don't know what the actual fps are, or if they even go as high as 30, just trying to give you an accurate idea of what i'm seeing.

I'm not sure what i'm doing wrong, but i'll be honest and say I don't understand how each function affects the fps even though I comprehend what they do graphically.

I'm using glidewrapper084c

A glide wrapper is emulating the hardware of an old 3Dfx card. The use of which, as you have found out, comes at the expense of performance. If you are trying to use it in conjunction with another emulator or vitualizer, you are just adding to the overhead on resources. You can experiment with some other wrappers to see if any offer better performance with your hardware, but you will probably find that none will work dramatically better. A higher end CPU may be your only real hope, short of a dinosaur with a real 3Dfx card.

To easily change resolution without affecting performance, you may want to try out MultiRes.

MultiRes can quickly change the resolution of the desktop, but will not help the in game resolution in MoE. The only way that you can get higher than 640x480 is to either use a Glide Wrapper or to have a real 3Dfx card and Windows 9x.

My computer is about 3 years old, I would have thought even at that age, the power of it being exponentially great than my old 98+ packardbell machine, it could emulate the whole system perfectly, and still have room for other tasks. Guess I was wrong. Thanks for all the input ^^
