I don't know if this has already been mentioned, but I just found out that Bethesda has released both The Elder Scrolls: Arena and The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall for free! Apparently this occurred in July, 2009.
You can download them at The Elder Scrolls website. That link should direct you to the downloads page. I'd also recommend downloading the installation instructions. There's some useful information there, plus copy protection answers.
The only Elder Scrolls game I've ever played is Morrowind, so this should be interesting. The graphics look quite good for the time period (1994 and 1996).
NOTE: Just so you all know, this isn't illegal. Although Bethesda's main site doesn't mention it, you can find information about these two games becoming freeware at various news sources. Just search for the info on Google.

Daggerfall was huge at the time it came out. I believe I had a copy... somewhere... but like a few of my other possessions, they have since been lost in the multitude of moves.

This news was on VOGONS when Arena was released, but I was not aware that they had released Dagger Fall, since then.

you missed all those post of people that were unable to run the game because they
didn't read the instructions correctly for the label having an uppercase D as first letter ?
*sigh* what a busy time that was

Arena was released on the 10th anniversary. Daggerfall was released on the 15th anniversary. Maybe they'll release both Battlespire and Redguard for the 20th? (a dungeon-only FPS and a 3rd person adventure game respectively)
Arena is fun but pretty generic and repetitive. I don't think there's any man-made scripted side-quests besides the main quest. But it's still fun to play. I got pretty far and got into a dungeon on a side quest looking for something and ended up getting poisoned without any potions so I'm still stuck in that dungeon and can't swift travel anywhere or I die. I keep wandering around killing enemies waiting for someone to randomly drop a potion. In Arena you can walk outside of towns but you'll never get anywhere. You have to swift travel everywhere. The land is all randomly generated, too. But you can go anywhere in Tamriel, not just a particular province.
Daggerfall is really hard at the beginning dungeon, but once you get past that it gets better. It has horses, too, something Oblivion rebooted. I haven't gotten very far yet but it is a big game. With many factions, abilities (you can be a vampire, werewolf, or even a werehog), a total game map of bigger size than Great Britain in real life. It's all randomly generated I believe but you can actually walk from one town to the other it'll just take forever.
I believe both games have random dungeons outside of towns, too. So there is a reason to walk outside of towns. The only thing I don't like is that at nighttime inside towns enemies can come to attack you (as in monsters).
