Windows 7 game compatibility
Re: Windows 7 game compatibility
Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit
Works:
King's Quest Collection (200X Vivendi release)
Space Quest Collection (200X Vivendi Release)
Police Quest Collection (200X Vivendi Release)
Police Quest SWAT (Original Discs)
Police Quest SWAT 2 (Original Disc)
SWAT 3 (Original Elite Edition Disc)
Laura Bow and the Dagger of Amon Ra (Original Disc)
Sam And Max Season 2 (Since you mention season 1)
All TellTale Games
Curse of Monkey Island (ScummVM)
Escape from Monkey Island
All Myst Games (Original CDs)
Star Trek 25 Anniversary (DOSBox)
Star Trek Judgement Rites (DOSBox)
Star Trek The Next Generation A Final Unity (DOSBox, may have small audio hiccups)
These all work without having to do anything except Riven (Myst 2). This one game requieres some file copying into the game folder. I used this to help me ( http://www.mystcommunity.com/board/inde ... ntry322778 )

Re: Windows 7 game compatibility
It's the Windows games that are of the most useful information. The biggest problem is with the Win95 games. It is also of interest any XP or Vista games that get broken on Win7. Also what works on Win7 that was broken on XP/Vista. DOSBox runs fine on Win7, so any issues with DOS games should be the same as with DOSBox on any Windows. Same with ScummVM.

Re: Windows 7 game compatibility
Hey buddy, I know this is quite an old post but I did a bit of searching through the web and found this post. Could you please tell me how you managed to install this game on Win 7 Pro 64bit? It would be greatly appreciated.Collector wrote:

I have the CDs and i'm trying to install and play the game for old time sake, but obviously it won't, because i'm under a 64 bit operating system.
Did you have the game previously installed?

Re: Windows 7 game compatibility
Sorry for double post -- i've also tried installing under Virtual PC in XP Mode and still no luck, because of the darn 256 color bit mode I can't switch to.
Re: Windows 7 game compatibility
I did already have it installed. Without digging out the CDs, I'll assume that the installer is a 16-bit installer. Some of these installers will run on 64-bit Windows if you set them to run in Compatibility Mode, but this does not work for most 16-bit installers. You can get access to the color depth of XP mode if you turn off the integration. After it is installed you can turn the integration back on to copy files back to the host system.

Re: Windows 7 game compatibility
Thank you sir, all I had to do was simply disable integration features on Virtual PC. Playing now

Re: Windows 7 game compatibility
64-bit OS is an absolute must if you're buying a new PC today. New games are already requiring 2 GB RAM, it's only a matter of time until they start requiring 4 GB, and consequently, 64-bit OSs.
Has anyone tried Grim Fandango on Win7? I even had major problems with it in XP. I had to turn off hardware acceleration just to get the character models to show up, and then I had to save every 10 minutes due to random crashes and other buggy behavior.

Re: Windows 7 game compatibility
This may seem like a silly Question, i have installed Titanic Adventure out of time on my Dual boot 2008 Mac with windows 7 when i install in windows 7 i have to do so manually by exploring the disk then finding the setup file and installing from there that takes a few seconds then the game does not run properly and and the graphics are all distorted, collector i remember you said you got this game to run on win7 i would love to get this game up and running for my husband

Re: Windows 7 game compatibility
I don't have the game currently installed, but try going to the game's installed folder, right click on "TI.EXE"->properties and experiment with the settings compatibility tab.
