Dragon Age - Multiplayer.

Post by Tawmis » Fri Dec 02, 2011 3:00 am

Well, it's a rumor.

http://www.industrygamers.com/news/ea-p ... ffs-rumor/

EA is planning to expand two of its franchises into a different arena, according to a pair of rumors from Kotaku. The blog has been told by one insider that Dragon Age is getting a multiplayer mode sometime in the future. The insider is unsure if the multiplayer will be a part of a full sequel or a standalone title.

The mode will add arena-style combat, including PVE and PVP elements, and will allow players to control dragons for the first time ever. The project will apparently be powered by DICE’s Frostbite 2 game engine.

The second rumor involves a growing expansion of the Visceral’s Dead Space franchise. A second insider said that EA is still working on Dead Space 3, with a planned return for series protagonist Issac Clarke. The game is apparently taking place on an ice plant called Tau Volantis and could be the final outing for the main character.

More interestingly, EA is also working on a Dead Space first-person shooter, probably a more-robust affair than the on-the-rails Wii shooter, Dead Space: Extraction. The third Dead Space project is apparently a flight game, and after all these projects are finished, Dead Space will also be making an Uncharted-style adventure game. That’s a great deal of expansion for the little franchise that could.

Could EA risk burning out fans with all these additional titles?

I don't think DA would make for a good multiplayer game. Maybe if it was only an optional portion, like what BioWare is doing with ME3, but that's about it.

If you think about it, DA's strong suit is its story and characters. As a fantasy world in of itself, it's not particularly amazing or unique.

It might be fun if they did it like Gears of War, where you log in and you take over one of the characters in the party. So say DPX hosts the game, I log in and I suddenly become Alistair. Collector logs in and he is suddenly Wynne. Draco logs in and takes over the 4th slot in your party, and becomes Sten. And that's your 4 player co-op.

Yeah, except it doesn't sound like that's what they're aiming for with this idea.

Well, it mentions PVP and PVE... so, I am curious...

I'm curious, too. However, PvE and PvP doesn't necessarily mean co-op. It'd be a shame if co-op didn't exist (especially since it's really popular nowadays), but we'll have to wait and see.

Yeah. I am wondering if the ME3 Co-Op/Multi-Player that they're supposed doing is what's triggering this.
