What I think about DRM

Except for the 'buyfags' part...I would never call them that.....I didn't make this picture...

"Buyfags"?

I don't know what that means, and don't get what that has to do with anything. I wouldn't have called that car anything.
Did this actually happen (as in, the bus smashing the car etc.)?
But yeah, I get the point - people who put DRM in their products want to "beat" the pirates so desperately, they're willing to also beat down legitimate users. Ugh.

Yes, the car being the regular buyer. Legal purchasers are the ones suffering while pirates dodge everything DRM throws at them is the idea. That's the story behind the car.

This is why I have no qualms about using NoCD patched EXEs on the games that I buy to avoid the evils of the likes of StarForce. But this is not the only way that the publishers screw their customers. Having controlled releases is a tactic that marketeers force on us with the notion that they can build anticipation by drawing out the release date across different countries. By having such a disparity it only encourages piracy.
Gray Matter is an example. By delaying the American release of the game, it only drove many to grab a bit torrent of the game. Supporting Jane Jensen is important enough to that I am still waiting, but many have not.

I often use NO-CD patches as well, regardless of the DRM scheme. Even if the DRM is non-invasive as a CD check, I still tend to use NO-CD patches.
Why? So I don't need the disc, obviously.
I mostly do this if Maia and I want to play the same game at the same time and it's single player. DA:O or ME2, for instance.
I don't really like downloading NO-CD patches, however. I sometimes worry that the patch itself may contain malware. I virus scan (as I do everything I download, no matter what the source is) it of course, but even so, I'm not very comfortable with it.
I wish I know how to patch the game myself.

I agree with you guys. I also use noCD patches from time to time, especially if me and my boyfriend want to play the same game at the same time, just like DPX and Maia. It happened for example with
Fallout 3.
And yes, I hate DRM as well. That's why I think GoG is so great

Despite how much I like Steam, if GOG had new games on its site, I might go there instead. Unfortunately, that's not likely to happen, especially given its name.
GOG would probably get sued for removing the DRM from newer games as well. At least Steam usually replaces the DRM normally included; if the game's developer/publisher kept their DRM in addition to Steam, that information will be noted on Steam as well.

Well, The Witcher 2 will be available on GOG, so there might be hope of seeing newer games there as well!

This is true.
I still see problems related to developer/publisher DRM. Getting rid of it on GOG would be illegal unless companies consented. I don't see that happening because if they were that lax about it, they wouldn't bother with DRM in the first place.
