What's with all the zombie games in the last few years? It seems every time I turn around, there's a new game with zombies in it! Don't get me wrong -- killing zombies can be fun (it certainly is in Left 4 Dead 2), but the entire idea has been so overexposed that it's more of an annoyance now than anything else.

Honestly, I think the reason zombies have gained such popularity is BECAUSE they're zombies and not living, breathing people. Some people -- usually overprotective and uninformed parents -- get up in arms when you shoot a 3D graphical representation of a human.

Zombies aren't human (or at least aren't human anymore) and so there's relatively few objections. Plus, zombies don't use weapons, which has enabled less experienced FPS gamers to play without as much frustration.

Regardless of the above reasons, I'm sick and tired of "killing" zombies. Let's do something different, dammit!

I think it's another fad.

The Walking Dead comic is extremely popular. So much so that it got it's own show, that after 2 episodes, got approved for a second season.

Zombies have been "in" for awhile now. I can't count how many times I have seen pictures of those "Construction Ahead" light up signs changed to "Zombies Ahead"...

It even made the news recently when someone did it (but proceeded to write it as "Caaution" Zombies Ahead)...

Zombies Ahead.

Yeah, I'm getting bored with zombies.

Irony.

So there's a mess of folks who play LEFT FOR DEAD 2 at work, and they have their own server and such - and my boss just bought LFD2 for me! So I will be playing LFD2! (It's quite a fun game thus far!)

L4D2 is awesome! I like it better than the first one. It feels better paced and I LOVE the addition of melee weapons. The katana is the best. I can slice and dice my way through TONS of zombies with it. If you stand in a doorway and fight the oncoming horde with a katana, you can pretty much take them all down yourself (at least the ones coming from that direction). Plus, it saves ammo.

I also really like the co-operative gameplay. Sometimes I just don't feel like dealing with people I don't know on the internet. Then it's just DPX, me, 2 AI, and the zombie horde.

We have actually been taking a break from it for a while, but all this talk of it makes me want to play again.

Well, I am a newb to it - but wouldn't mind hacking up some zombies with folks I know.

Just so you know, Maia and I are very casual when it comes to L4D2. In other words, we play on Easy. The main reason we do that is because we'd end up killing each other during a firefight. We're not always the most careful shots, especially when getting surrounded or dealing with a Tank.

I'd love to plan out a L4D night with you all.

I don't mind. I am - as you could probably imagine - the most casual player, perhaps ever.

And it would be fun! I am busy this weekend (and my work plays on a specific night) - but other than that, we can try to arrange something (let me find out what nights my work plays - since my boss bought it for me to play with them!)


My favorite MMO memories, typically revolve around times when the raid/group wiped out!

I'm pretty much free tomorrow between the hours of 8 AM and 5 PM (Central Time). Sometime in there could work for some of us maybe at least.

Also, they really don't understand body parts. Ask them to give you a hand, and before you know it, they go footloose; much more than that, and you don't have a leg to stand on. *drum fill*

We ended up having to do some errands today, but in general, weekends would probably work best for us (especially if we're trying to coordinate time zones). As long as I don't have to get up too early.

Do either of you (Tawm or MI) use headsets and voice chat or do you rely on the regular text chat? DPX has a good headset and can use it. Mine isn't that great, but I can use it if need be. However, we're both fine just with text too. We're flexible.

3 or 4 of us playing together as a group would be fun!

Kind of ironic that we're in a thread, complaining about how sick of zombies we are, and then organize a zombie gaming session.

I don't have a headset but I use the mic on my webcam and a pair of headphones for gaming as such.
