Use ScummVM for The Secret of Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge and The Curse of Monkey Island. Use the Quick and Easy Installer/Launcher for Escape from Monkey Island.

Thanks, dotkel! :) I've completed Grim Fandango today - basically, the game would work without stutter when I turned on Windows 98 support, but I had to turn it off for Cutscenes. I'll try it with the imagecfg file. Thanks again! :)

Collector, I'm not sure how ScummVM works at all. :( I read the FAQ and instructions and downloaded and installed it, but when I tried to run Curse of MI from it, it told me that it needed the files COMI.LA0, COMI.LA1 and COMI.LA2. I tried getting those files from the CD, but the program could not see them; I tried getting the files from my hard drive, but the program couldn't see them there either. :? Errr... how is this supposed to work?

Rath.

Go here: http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Dataf ... and.2C_The

Copy the files listed here off your cd to a Curse of Monkey Island file folder. Start up ScummVM, click on add game, point to your game folder and click Choose. It should see those files and add the game to the list. You can then launch the game from there.

Copy to a folder on your hard drive the following from both CoMI CDs:

* RESOURCE folder
* COMI.LA0
* COMI.LA1
* COMI.LA2

Start ScummVM and click "Add Game" to navigate to the folder that you copied the files to, then click "Choose". A Window should pop up that identifies the game. Click OK. High light the game and click "Start".

Well, this is odd... :? I tried to find those files yesterday in the folder that I installed the game to (D:\Program Files\Lucasarts\Curse\ ). When I looked at that folder in Windows Explorer, all the right files were there. But when I looked at the folder in ScummVM, I could not see those files at all - there was just an empty \Curse folder and an empty \Resource folder under it.

Have I done something wrong...? *blush*

Are you tryng to INSTALL them in Scummvm? You just have to COPY them - to any folder you choose. No installation is needed.

Erm... I'm not trying to install them in ScummVM. I used the mixnmojo installer to install the game, and then I tried the mixnmojo launcher to launch the game - but that gave me sound stutter, as I said before.

This is why I'm trying ScummVM, but the files don't show up... :(

Any ideas?

The ScummVM GUI will not show files, just folders. Just click "Add game", browse to the folder that has the files and click the "Choose" button.

Ah! :) Now I get it. Thanks, Collector! :D MI3 now works perfectly. Yay! :D I also see that ScummVM supports Grim Fandango and Discworld II, both of which I have. I'll have to try them out. Thanks again for your help! :)

No, it does not support Grim Fandango. It is not a Scumm game. There is an offshoot of ScummVM, Residual, that is working on a new engine for the 3-D games like Grim Fandango and MI4, but it is not nearly as developed as ScummVM. For now, the Quick and Easy installer/Launcher is the best way for Grim Fandango.

Also, you may wish to check out the free games offered on the ScummVM site, like Beneath a Steel Sky, Flight of the Amazon Queen and Lure of the Temptress. These games have been freewared by their IP owners. These games are fully supported by ScummVM. Look for the Discworld games to be added to this list.

OK... oops. *blush* Thanks for the correction, Collector! :) I'll keep those two in mind and check back every so often. Thanks again! :)

Incidentally, regarding those 3 games you mentioned... have you (or anyone else here) played them before? I hadn't played them before, although I've certainly heard of the names, etc. ;) Are they any good?

I've played Steel Sky and Amazon Queen in the past year and loved them both.

Just finished it... it's an amazing game! Thank you for posting this thread Rath, it really incited me to take a look at it!

Unfortunately I now have that "let it shine" song in my head (grunt).
