Re: Monitors

We had a turbo button on our 80486DX2, from "Concept Computers" (my parents bought a few weird off-brand computers). It didn't seem to work though...there was a game series (Kroz) that relied on the timing of a slow PC and would run really fast and maybe kill your character even on a Pentium I. I d...

LSL7 was entertaining - but you could tell that Al was reaching... for some of the things.
So was Larry. 8-)

Re: Some Good CRPGs?

Just to note: Mass Effect only has that copy protection scheme on the PC version. It's also available on the Xbox 360. It seems many of BioWare's games first appeared on the original Xbox as well (i.e. Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire ). Some games are still PC-only, like Neverwinter Nig...

Re: Uncensored Gobliiins/Gobliins 2

I've never played Gobliiins or Goblins 2 , but I've seen plenty of games that use censorship. Indigo Prophecy , for example, was censored in the North American release, whereas the same game (called Fahrenheit ) in Europe was not. The censorship in that case was concentrated on a shower scene and a ...

Re: Your favorite Leisure Suit Larry Game and Why?

I think the main reason many Adventure gamers disliked MCL wasn't due to playing a different character -- as previously said, that occurs quite frequently in the KQ series -- but because the game was so very different. MCL relied on sophomoric humor and button-mashing rhythm games. The other LSL tit...

Re: Your Favorite Moment?

I wasn't shocked that Marie was attacked. It's a classic staple of police series -- attack the family of the officer. While I don't have a "favorite moment," I'd have to say that I enjoyed being a "bad cop." I saved my game first, of course, but I liked having the ability to shoot practically anyone...

Re: Favorite Police Quest Game and Why?

In terms of story and design, I'd have to say that PQ3 is my favorite. However, I have a soft spot for PQ2. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because I can withdraw my gun and walk around freely. :P PQ1 (the original) was very tough and unforgiving. The worst part was the driving. I could barely make out...

Mecha and FPS

So... has anyone here (besides myself) played the following games? Battledrome Earthsiege Earthsiege 2 Starsiege Starsiege: Tribes Tribes 2 Tribes: Vengeance For reference, Starsiege is technically "Earthsiege 3" and originally, the game was going to be called that. It was changed before release. Ba...

Re: Some Good CRPGs?

BioWare and EA did do away with the old DRM copy protection scheme. However, they put another one in its place. The newer protection is much worse, since instead of insisting on authenticating itself every 10 days, you are only allowed three installations and activations. After that, your game beco...

Tandy 1000SX... no hard drive... didn't support high density drives... and on turbo ran at if I remember correctly 1.6MHz!
Wow... I completely forgot about the "turbo button." I haven't seen that since I used a 386.

Re: Post your new Sierra treasures here (box shots optional)

Have you received your Willy CD, yet? That sounds wrong. Of course, my mind is constantly in the gutter. :D I have most of those games -- in their original boxes too. The only three that I don't "technically" have (but do own) are KQ1, KQ2 and The Black Cauldron for my old AppleII. Obviously, I can...

Re: Monitors

The first computer I ever used was an AppleII and had a green monochrome monitor (which was more plastic casing than actual screen area). Eventually, I upgraded to a color monitor, since it was hard to make out geographical features in games like King's Quest when everything was a shade of green.

Re: Looking for Space Quest 1 EGA.

A good way to successfully win bids on eBay is to always bid with unusual amounts. For instance, say the bidding is up to $30 and you really want this item. Well, instead of bidding with $35, you use $35.87 instead. That extra 87 cents seems worthless, but most people bid without thinking of cents. ...

Re: The Longest Journey/Dreamfall

I didn't really care for The Longest Journey , but I know a lot of people really liked it (including Maia). I haven't played Dreamfall yet, so I can't really comment on it. The one thing I do know is that Dreamfall has a relatively tough control scheme. It seems to work better if you use a gamepad, ...

Re: Dragonsphere

I remember playing DragonSpere . I thought it resembled a KQ-type of game, only it wasn't quite as engaging and was created by MicroProse. That struck me as a little odd, since MicroProse's usual games revolved around simulations. Of my favorite MicroProse games is a very old Flight Sim (I believed ...
