Re: Things That Annoy You!

I like telemarketers. I get to screw with their minds. There was telemarketer who called me one day and invited me to some sort of church/religious ceremony (she was mostly looking for donations from those attending) and began spewing all sorts of Christian dogma. Finally, she asked if I c...

Re: Things That Annoy You!

I have something to say about charity organizations, too. Shortly after the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center, the American Red Cross started acquiring donations to assist the widows and widowers of people who died that day. Everyone viewed that as exceptionally noble and the "rig...

Re: Registry Cleaners

If it is because of a lot of installs/uninstalls of programs, especially shareware, it may be time for a fresh install of Windows, anyway. Perhaps, but that's a real pain to do. Unless you have a whole weekend free for nothing else, formatting and doing a fresh install quickly becomes a huge inconv...

Re: What are you playing now?

I just finished Jade Empire and I have to admit, I was a little disappointed by the way they did the ending (as I was with most RPGs I've played lately). It would be more satisfying to have a short follow up dialogue scene with your most important party members instead of just the short "yay! you w...

Re: Registry Cleaners

Unfortunately, the last registry cleaner that I found effective and safe was one that only worked on Windows 98SE and ME. I've tried it numerous times on 2K and XP, all of which failed. I assume the program was developed for the 9x kernel but for use on the NT kernel. That's a real shame, too. It wa...

Things That Annoy You!

I'm sure everyone has things that annoy them. So let's hear 'em! I'll go first: 1. Online Groups -- Ever since The Sierra Network (or ImagiNation Network, whichever you prefer) was around in the very early 1990s, people have formed groups. This was most prevalent in combat-oriented games, such as Re...

Re: The many ways to refer to "The smallest room in the house"

Also in a local mall in my area they had the restrooms labeled instead of Men and Women they had Ladies and Gentlemen as the labels. Which I though was weird. I don't remember if they still have those labels since I haven't been in there an long time. I've seen that. Using "ladies and gentlemen" is...

Re: QfG5

But the scenery is beautiful and waves washing against the shore are relaxing. I'm considering getting a winter home in one of them. :D ;) This reminds me... At practically every outpost in Guild Wars , Maia ran around exploring everything and then commented on how we "should have a home here."

Re: The many ways to refer to "The smallest room in the house"

... but that pales in weirdness to the Israelite expression House of Honour. Perhaps that's due to "sitting on the throne" when in the bathroom? ;) After visiting the US a fair amount in the last couple years and having lived in the UK for two years, I found that "Ladies Room" was the most widely u...

Re: American English vs Commonwealth English

So... in Australia, most e-commerce sites have a shopping cart. They thought that was "the" way of referring to the online version. Those of us who purchase from online sites in the UK have realised the terrible error... because... it should be... SHOPPING BASKET or SHOPPING TROLLEY. Hmmm... that's...

Re: wii adventure games

As you said, the entire first episode of Sam & Max: Freelance Police is on the Wii. Considering that the Wiimote could easily act as a mouse and has performed those duties before in many games and applications (such as the Opera web browser), I don't see why this wouldn't work. Something else that's...

Re: American English vs Commonwealth English

AFAIK, people from Buffalo always call it "western" New York and not "upstate". As the Buffalo area is the only part of New York I lived in, I thought "upstate" was only the part of New York north of Albany or so. (Then I learned years later that it's pretty much everything in the state except NYC....

Re: My Haves and Wants

I remembering playing Mickey's Space Adventure. My dad and I played it together. I showed a downloaded version to him -- we still own the game but it's on 5.25" diskettes which makes it just about unplayable on modern computers -- and he started playing it.

Rath... I was making a joke, just as Almirena said. If you've seen Robin Hood: Men in Tights you'd recognize where the quote comes from. ;)

I always thought Buffalo was in upstate New York.
