Re: Ceasar I free giveaway back in 1999 - early 2000s
Do you mean Caesar 1, 2, or 3? The third Caesar game is currently sold on GOG. I don't know what the status of the other two are, but given that Activision holds the rights to that IP, I have a very difficult time imaging them letting it go for free.

Re: Space Quest 6 - different bugs
As I understand it, it's best to think of a front end like D-Fend Reloaded as simply a GUI for DOSBox. It's not necessary, but for some people it can make using it a lot easier.Tawmis wrote: I guess I am not seeing the benefit to a game with a front end? Why not just use DOSBox? What am I missing?

Re: King's Quest by the Odd Gentlemen (Trailer inside!)
I think you guys are missing my point. I wasn't saying "people here are cheapskates." I'm saying that, in general, PC gamers demand super-cheap games, and that in comparison, console gamers don't have a choice about the price, so developers and publishers stand to make more overall. BTW, Maia and I ...

Re: King's Quest by the Odd Gentlemen (Trailer inside!)
I'm not paying until the full product is out and on a flash sale. Unfortunately, that's a major reason why Activision wants the game on consoles as well. PC gamers expect their games to be insanely cheap, mostly due to the sort of sales we've become used to by digital distributors like Steam and GO...

Re: King's Quest by the Odd Gentlemen (Trailer inside!)
Though it is not necessarily a deal breaker for me, I detest episodic releases. I probably will wait until all are released before buying. Ditto. Roger (Wilco) that. This is one reason why I grit my teeth whenever someone goes on about how games like World of Warcraft or The Sims are so wonderful, ...

Out of interest, couldn't you have just tried giving your warrior a bow in order to see if he could or couldn't use it?

Re: King's Quest by the Odd Gentlemen (Trailer inside!)
According to Matt Korba (the lead designer at The Odd Gentlemen, who's been answering questions on Facebook in the Sierra Gamers group) this is definitely going to be an adventure game. It's just that trailers demand action, and showing what generally makes up the bulk of adventure games -- such as ...

That's where I've heard that voice before! It was bugging me, because I couldn't place it.MusicallyInspired wrote:I never thought I'd see the day when an Industry Award honouring Ken and Roberta for pioneering adventure games would be presented by Duke Nukem.

Re: King's Quest by the Odd Gentlemen (Trailer inside!)
As far as the graphics are concerned, there is no one defined look for the KQ series. We've had EGA (both AGI and SCI), VGA, SVGA, and 3D. To me, this new KQ game doesn't look particularly childish or silly. It's just using an exaggerated, cel-shaded style. I'm sure the less serious look is because ...

Re: King's Quest by the Odd Gentlemen (Trailer inside!)
Except that is what they did with MoE and because of it, it often decried as one of the worst. To be fair, third-person action (on the PC) has improved a lot since 1998. MoE tried to change the formula TOO much by practically turning the KQ series into a Diablo-esque game, whereas the new KQ at lea...

Re: King's Quest by the Odd Gentlemen (Trailer inside!)
Ah, ok. I actually posted that same trailer in the thread about the game awards honoring Ken and Roberta. It's a little weird the channel is for Playstation, as I had originally assumed the game would be PC-only. I guess that wouldn't make a lot of sense, financially speaking. Is it me or does the g...

Re: Industry Award.
That was a nice tribute. The music and voice over were a bit corny, but it worked. I think Ken was actually getting a little emotional when he turned the mic over to Roberta.
BTW, they didn't show the trailer/teaser for the new KQ but there is a thread here about it on SHP.
