Re: Your Top Ten Sierra Adventures
9. Quest for Glory 2 - I just can't go past this utter classic. Anyone who's played it, I'm sure, will agree. [...] 6. Gabriel Knight 2 and 3 - I never managed to beat GK2, which is why it occupies a shared slot. Completely agree with QfG2, but why didn't you finished GK2? Well, basically, ...

Re: Your Top Ten Sierra Adventures
Uhmm... MusicallyInspired, your picks for #2, 5, 6, 9 and 10 are LucasArts/LucasGames games, not Sierra games... ;) I'm not sure about #11 and 12, though. My top ten Sierra games, in no particular order, are... 10. Quest for Glory 4 - what an utterly beautiful game... this game, for me, beats anythi...

Fun exercise: run-on sentences
I'm not sure if anyone else here is a fan of the old BBC series Yes Minister , but for those who've never seen it before, here's a quick summary: the new Minister for Administrative Affairs, Jim Hacker, has a Permanent Secretary called Sir Humphrey Appleby. Humphrey must do his best to keep his mini...

Re: Why dogs are better than computers
Well, fair enough. I was only comparing dogs and computers, not dogs and computers and cats.

Re: Cliches in Games
Another one for adventure games...
If, at the end of one adventure game your character will have retired happily, at the beginning of the sequel he will have a very good reason to start adventuring again. This always happens. Your character cannot retire and start drawing his pension.

Why dogs are better than computers
- If a dog does something wrong, you can easily see what it was. For example, if you forget to feed the dog, your Guccis become chew toys. Faults in computers aren't that easy to detect. - With a dog, you have lots of clues. It's easy to see why a dog won't obey: It's tired, it's bored, it's hungry....

Re: Cliches in Games
Corollary to #4... 4a. Even if they spot you entering their home, they will give you more than enough time to get away by warning you that you have stepped into a 'forbidden area'. If you stay well beyond - say - 90 to 120 seconds, then and only then will they call the guard. Of course, if they obse...

Re: Cliches in Movies and TV Shows
1. Any good arch-villain ALWAYS escapes by some ingenious escape route, usually involving hydrofoil. 2. Anything that is not easily explainable within about 15 seconds is obviously highly sophisticated technology. (For instance, the explanation by "Doc" in the ludicrous first "Back to the Future" fi...

More cliches in games... 1. Any good arch-villain ALWAYS escapes by some ingenious escape route, usually involving teleportation spells. 2. Anything that is not easily explainable is obviously magic. 3. Any good arch-villain always gloats and cackles at all times, including when he escapes. (This al...

Re: Things That Annoy You!
That sounds utterly despicable. *is angry just thinking about this* I hate it when people can't take responsibility for their own actions. Then they're cowards as well as screw-ups.
Do you have any links about these two cases, therogue?

Re: Cliches in Movies and TV Shows
*laughs along, nods along* These are good. I have one or two corollaries to add... 9. There's always "a" bar... or pub... where the main characters go. 9a. The people who work this bar/pub, know all the regulars by name, and furthermore know their favourite drinks, all about their private lives, who...
