Re: An article a friend of mine wrote...

Honestly, I'm surprised that a retail outlet was willing to hire someone with that much education. After I finished my MSc, what I encountered the most, when applying for jobs not in my field (since the ones in my field are few and far between), was "why aren't you working in your field?" or the gen...

Re: The Brainless Box (aka Television Shows)

I actually didn't think it was that similar, other than the fact that they are dealing with adapting to supernatural societies. Since that's pretty common in a number of different supernatural series I've read, though, it doesn't make me think of True Blood first. Have you seen True Blood's third s...

gumby wrote:#8 looks like Sliders (don't know the connection to QfG).

I recognized it as Sliders, but it took me a minute to remember the connection. John Rhys Davies is the narrator for QfG4. :D

I recognized the various Star Trek ones and Stargate, as well as Sliders, but not the others.

Re: The Brainless Box (aka Television Shows)

So I decided to give Lost Girl a bit more of a try, since Space Channel has the episodes online anyway. I have a friend that keeps nagging me to watch it. I tried the first episode. I must admit that when I got to the giant the protagonist has to fight I found hard not to laugh ;) I know! I was thi...

Re: Favorite Sierra musical track

I love the ambient music from QfG5, like Silmarian night and day music, as well as the underwater music. That game probably has my favourite music. I also love most the "Erana" music (that was part of what made her retreats so beautiful), but Erana's peace is especially lovely. I really love a numbe...

So I decided to give Lost Girl a bit more of a try, since Space Channel has the episodes online anyway. I actually like it more now that I've watched the entire first season. I still wish the main character had a little more personality or reacted a little more emotionally to some things, but at lea...

Re: The Worst Foods and Drinks in America

I find that it's a combination of the method and the beans that make good coffee. As DPX said, if you get the pre-ground commercial brands, then it doesn't taste very good. As Collector said, a good drip coffee maker can make a good pot of coffee. I personally use a "French Press" because I don't l...

Re: Break The Spine.

Since we're all speaking of fantasy authors, one of my new favourites is Jaqueline Carey. Especially her second trilogy. I absolutely loved the final book of that trilogy. Maybe I was just in the right mood when I read it, but I haven't enjoyed a fantasy novel that much in years. Her first trilogy ...

Re: McG to do... Wonder Woman?

Considering Wonder Woman apparently used to wear a skirt and shoes instead of a bathing-suit and boots, I can't see that updating her outfit again to include leg-covering tights should be that big of a deal. If they made the bottoms just go all the way down into her boots and limit the number of sta...

Re: Break The Spine.

Not sure I'd like her fairy tale stuff, but I love Lackey's Heralds of Valdemar series. I've read most of those and really loved them too. I think I got a bit over-saturated when it got to the owl-whatever trilogy and I gave her a break as an author for a few years at that point. I actually started...

Re: The Worst Foods and Drinks in America

So much better than the doughy ones you get out at the cheap diner places. Or worse, tough, heavy pancakes. I don't think I've encountered that as much. I guess that's what happens if they get dried out. :? I barely ever eat pancakes aren't homemade. I'm less in favour of using purely white flour t...

Re: McG to do... Wonder Woman?

The reason I'd LIKE them to do Wonder Woman is because she's such an iconic FEMALE character... We haven't really seen any strong female characters in the super hero comic area - so I'd like to see one done right - and preferably this one. Oh, I agree. If it's done right. I'd love to see a female s...

Re: The Brainless Box (aka Television Shows)

I have also been giving Being Human a try, but it hasn't amazed me so far. It's not bad, but it's not really doing anything new. The vampire/werewolf trying resist his darker nature has been done so many times and far too often lately. :| In some ways, it's more interesting if they're more rare, as ...

Re: Break The Spine.

I have a new Mercedes Lackey book from the library, which I'm really enjoying. It's the most recent novel in her Five-Hundred Kingdoms series. I love novels based on fairy tales and I like the lighter, more humorous approach she takes with this one. I actually did have a look for some George R. R. M...

Re: The Worst Foods and Drinks in America

I usually only eat things like eggs, bacon, pancakes, waffles, etc. as brunch or sometimes a special breakfast on weekends. Certainly not every day! The fast food versions of most of those are pretty bad, but then again, that was the purpose of the photos (since the topic was "bad food"). North Amer...
