Re: American English vs Commonwealth English

Hmmm... that's interesting. I've never heard either of those terms used in that manner. I could see the term "shopping basket" (it is, after all, a basket with which you shop) but a "shopping trolley?" That sounds like a trolley car -- such as the kind you might find in San Francisco -- that takes ...

Re: American English vs Commonwealth English

Another interesting thing... Most of the websites which offer e-commerce refer to a "shopping cart". This is, of course, blatantly American. A lot of Australians simply didn't realise the idea was that a "shopping cart" was just an online version of the thing on wheels into which they put the goods ...

Re: The many ways to refer to "The smallest room in the house"

The main thing I remember from that Robin Hood: Men In Tights film was the chastity belt. Oh, more terms for this important functionary room/facility - garderobe (mediæval); latrine; can; privy; the gents' (for a public toilet for men); the ladies' (for a public toilet for women); lavatory; reredort...

Knowing DPX, I'm fairly certain his post was a leg-pull... a jape, a humorous tall tale, a joke, a mere jest...

Re: The many ways to refer to "The smallest room in the house"

Outhouse and dunny are probably interchangeable, except that dunny is a VERY rural term indeed, especially when said in a broad "Ocker" accent (which is Australian slang for the broadest and most exaggerated Australian pronunciation and vocabulary). The range of broad Australian accents is remarkab...

Re: QfG5

You can visit the villages before the Rites begin, but you will find them deserted, if I recall correctly... There will be no mercenaries and no sigils. But try it, just in case I'm wrong. I do seem to remember visiting a couple of the villages before the Rites started, and noting that it was "rien ...

Rudy, stop it! You're single-handedly outbidding us all! <mutters, "I'm going to tell Rudy's wife about this. Then we'll see. He'll be forced to eat stale bread for a week. Mwa ha ha.">

The many ways to refer to "The smallest room in the house"

As I understand it, in the US it's referred to as the bathroom . Some areas in the US might say restroom . Australia has some colourful ways of describing this "smallest room in the house", and some terms used are clearly more international. Welcome, then, to this thread in which the W.C. is given t...

Re: American English vs Commonwealth English

Anything which you've covered perfectly and which doesn't need anything further from me isn't mentioned below... Restroom vs Washroom - Actually, bathroom here. Some petrol stations will talk about "restrooms" when they mean "toilets". Never ask for the bathroom when visiting Australia. You will be ...

Re: QfG5

Andrea, to get the most out of QfG5, you really need to have your stats up to the highest level possible before signing up for the rites. Once the rites begin, your progress will be dictated by those rites and you won't have time to build up your skills or to perform other little quests. The story g...
