Re: Sierra Games: Where Do I Belong?
It's quite the brainteaser, isn't it?

Re: King's Quest Play Through - Commentary.
The toroidal topology of KQ1 makes it really easy to get lost. Every screen is either simultaneously north and south or simultaneously east and west (or both) of every other screen. KQ2 only loops on one axis, so there you can at least get the feeling of whether you're in the west or in the east.

Yes. Those are, in order, KQ6, 2, 3, 5, and a general one that ties the games together.

Can't you tell just by looking that that the screenshots don't match?

Re: King's Quest II - Daventry - it's not.
You're right, and it's good to acknowledge that. However, just to be clear, this was the original question: Rath's recent thread about Graham made me think of something that I forgot to bring up when I was playing King's Quest II. Why is it that Graham is yellow in King's Quest II, and yet Valanice ...

Re: King's Quest II - Daventry - it's not.
In the since KQ1, it's become pretty much a standard that white people in EGA games are be depicted as having light red skin, but I think the only reason you see this as normal is that you're so used to seeing it. If you saw the same color in a different context, you really wouldn't label it "flesh ...

Re: King's Quest II - Daventry - it's not.
In the AGI KQ games, characters had a variety of skin colors. Most were either yellow or light red. Since Graham is already wearing a light red shirt, he's yellow. In the SCI games, they changed him to light red with a dark red shirt. With the higher resolution, this looks okay. And that light red a...

Re: How many women did Larry sleep with?
It's plenty racist. For example, there's LSL5, where Patti gets a blackface disguise via the exploding copier and uses this to blend in with the black musicians. And the few people of color who do appear in the games are generally reduced to caricatures (e.g. LSL1 has an Asian convenience store cler...

Re: How many women did Larry sleep with?
No. Shablee was consistently referred to as "she". She just happened to have a penis. That whole scene was utterly transphobic, but there's no need to carry that over to discussions of it.Lounge Lizard wrote:Women who turned out to be men who may have slept with Larry:

Re: Kyrandia Book 1.
Just to be clear: it's not the inventory interface I dislike, but the underlying system. The always-visible inventory is quite nice, and it feels good to be able to pick up items in the scene with the mouse and place them into the inventory, or vice versa (although that system does make you feel dis...

Re: Kyrandia Book 1.
The game does have some charm. However, in addition to that dreadful cave maze, I also dislike the inventory system.

Re: Dagger of Amon Ra play! - Tawmis
The issue with both Laura Bow games is that playing through the game optimally requires knowledge the player can't have. it's all about being at the right place at the right time, but you can't tell beforehand where you should be and which actions will advance the time. So if you're just playing the...

Re: Industry Award.
The dangling participle is actually one of the things that bugs me about KQ6. Neither the sentence used to catch it nor its manner of speech has anything to do with actual grammatical dangling participles.
