Re: The King's Quest remakes
It's a bit hard to make generalizations about the remakes, since all three have very different approaches: KQ1 got a 1:1 remake. The gameplay, text, and screen layouts are the same as the SCI version. The exception to this is that they added an optional no-dead-ends mode. KQ2 was made into essential...

Re: Space Quest - Where Am I From? Screen Capture Game.
I'm thinking that a screenshot of an EGA version of a game normally seen in VGA will throw people off.

I'm not aware of anyone here having special expertise on this topic, but this is something you can just find out about by googling.

Re: Script party!
I really appreciate how many of the useless inventory interactions have unique messages in that game (though only in text, not speech, I believe).

Re: OpenOffice or LibreOffice? Apples or oranges?
I'd been using OpenOffice since before that whole Oracle fiasco, but this thread made me think about it and realize that my only reason for doing so was inertia. I've made the switch to LibreOffice.

They're both FPSs, but with exploration and puzzle-solving mechanics instead of actual shooting.

Re: Aspect Correction - What it is & when and how to use it
If you actually display the image at the full 1600x1200, then it will look correct, yes. However, at any lower resolution, it will either blur colors or scale the different rows/columns differently (so a field of uniform dithering will no longer look uniform). This is a complete inevitability, regar...

Re: Script party!
That has to do with the tools we have available for dealing with AGI and SCI games. I don't believe there's a decompiler available for SCI. On the other hand, if you had the AGI version of KQ4, you would be able to deal with it in the same way as KQ1-3.

Re: Phantasmagoria - The movie
The stuff on their FB page makes it clear that it is based on the game.
Also, while phantasmagoria is just an English word that could be used for an entirely unrelated movie, the full title of "Phantasmagoria: The Movie" would only be used if it's somehow based on an existing franchise.

Re: What are you playing now?
The grossness is among those many issues. Part of it is the art style. At 640x480, 256 colors just isn't enough (especially if they have to save some of those colors for sprites and the GUI). That means there's a whole lot of gritty-looking dithering, even on what should be a shiny clean screen (e.g...

Re: What are you playing now?
The datacorder puzzle is definitely my favorite part of SQ6. I really didn't care for it for the most part. I have, many, many issues with it. It's also a game that's just plain abusive to the player: you get insulted if you do the wrong thing, just look at things, or even if you do the right thing.

The "chief thief" in QfG2 is Dinarzad, not Aziza.

Zeliard has 4 color CGA, 16 color EGA, and 64 color MCGA. It looks like the MCGA option is in use there.

That would certainly explain why I couldn't make sense of your replies. When I said this: There's a world of difference between having a list of designated naughty words that scold the player for using them and having sexist slurs that are just accepted as valid synonyms. And you followed with this:...
