Re: Dagger of Amon Ra playthrough
Just finished The Dagger of Amon Ra. I did end up having to cheat a little. I was stuck near the end of Act 5 only to find out I had missed the smelling salts at the end of Act 4. I’m not sure how I missed that. And then I had to go back again because I used all of my snake oil in Olympia’s office ....

Re: Dagger of Amon Ra playthrough
I've run into a little snag in Act 5: I am being chased by the guy. I've entered the armor room and barricaded the door behind me. There's a chair now next to the looked door which I can use to open the transom window. I get the feeling that I am supposed to enter through the window, but I can't do ...

Re: Dagger of Amon Ra playthrough
I tried using the installer, and I don't think it recognizes the King's Quest Collection CD as a Dagger of Amon Ra CD, so it doesn't copy the files off the CD. I don't think I need to use the installer anyway though. If all it does is copy the files from the CD and copy the patch files, it basically...

Re: Dagger of Amon Ra playthrough
If you used the SHP installer there is no need to apply the NRS patch. As to version, check the VERSION file. The version is indeed 1.1. I installed the game and the patch manually. I thought I would try the installer, but it gave me an error about insufficient resources and then my virus scan quar...

Re: Dagger of Amon Ra playthrough
Thanks for the help. I've attached my saves. I have the script code patch already installed (http://reocities.com/belzorash/). As for the humor, I don't have a problem with it in principle. I just don't think it quite works all the time. I applied NewRisingSun's patch... but sadly get this error wh...

Dagger of Amon Ra playthrough
So I started my playthrough earlier this week. First, a problem. When I try to restore a game during Act 2, I get an Oops error and the game quits. This first time I thought it was an unlucky glitch, but it just happened again. Is there a way to fix my saved game, or are there places which are safe/...

Re: Merry Christmas!
Rath? You still haven't thrown away your idiot magnet? Oh boy do I feel your pain about those two songs... in fact about anything with sleigh bells annoys me to no end. But I do very much appreciate some carols, like God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and the Dutch Midden In De Winternacht. And Holiday Le...

Re: My playthrough
I understand the need for copy protection. My only issue was the implementation. The fingerprints can be tough to compare. PQ2 uses a similar idea with the mugshots in the manual which is much easier. On a related note, Starflight came with this great security decoder wheel as copy protection. The G...

Re: My playthrough
As for the fingerprints, I think you're supposed to look them up in the manual, the same way you did for the copy protection. Needing to refer to stuff outside the game is annoying, though, and there's no reason why Laura would have access to that information. The fingerprints were too small to com...

Re: My playthrough
For me it has always been a slightly OCD approach that I have towards games. It would bug me when the points wouldn't add up properly. In PQ1 (AGI) the best score is 249 out of 245 (without exploiting the Cotton Cove bug). PQ3 is always 10 points short of the maximum. And PQ4 doesn't have a max scor...

Re: My playthrough
Wow. Quite the discussion we have going here. :) Just finished the replay with a walkthrough. My initial opinion still stands. I think my main problem is that it just isn't an adventure game. It's possible to complete it without very much effort. I think it's important to have to work for it to be a...

Re: My playthrough
I found this amusing YouTube video . I was aware that you could get to act 7 by typing only only command, but that shows you can also do it without ever seeing a corpse. As for the endings, you get the good ending by killing Rudi, and a slightly better one from also doing the adventure game stuff, ...

Re: Sorry I missed it, but...
I'm surprised that nuts in the US lack flavour. Have you thought of flavouring them with tarragon or turmeric ? Or how about giving a bunch of almonds a honey coating and putting them in the oven for a little while? Or... here are some nice roasted nut recipes that I tried. ;) I'm not sure the reas...

Re: My playthrough
So I just finished last night. It is certainly an interesting game, but I think adeyke is right. Since you can progress largely without doing anything, there's no real incentive for exploration/puzzle solving. To be fair, the game makes this very clear and I thought I was being pretty diligent on my...
