Re: King's Quest by the Odd Gentlemen (Trailer inside!)

It's due to be released next month. Here's hoping. And you are right. It looks like they sprung for an A-list cast, which is encouraging.

Re: Videogame Publishers: No Preserving Abandoned Games

Found a pretty informative video on the topic of game preservation.

The museum looks pretty cool.

Re: Adventure Game Puzzles (was King's Quest III - The Pain)

I think game design in general was still in its infancy at the time. Many console games released at the time were so difficult they would be almost unplayable now. I never had an NES, but even I'm familiar with the Contra Code. Adventure games were in development then - if you check TVTropes you'll ...

Re: Mass Effect 4 in the works.

I'm more or less okay with the ending now, but at the time I don't think I've ever felt that strongly about a game's ending before. But then I don't think I've ever been that involved in a game franchise before. And ME3 was awesome up until that point, which just made it that much more jarring for m...

Re: Mass Effect 4 in the works.

I skimmed through it to get the gist without getting to many spoilers, but much of it seemed pretty broad and much of it is speculation. I was wondering how they would get around the end result of some of the big decisions you make (i.e. the fate of some species), I guess what they discussed would b...

Re: Data Preservation & Imaging Diskettes

In general I've been using the GUI that came with the software. When you generate a disk image, it will show you if you've made a working disk image and you can see where the copy protected, modified, and damaged tracks are. But I think capturing the stream files is probably the first thing that sho...

Re: Data Preservation & Imaging Diskettes

That is a really nice setup. And I really like the GUI you came up with. Are you also keeping the stream files for archiving?

Re: Videogame Publishers: No Preserving Abandoned Games

Interesting... I had no idea that modifying games could be legal (at least according to EFF, that is) under certain circumstances (i.e. to preserve a game's playability, after the server it needs is shut down). What servers would these be? If I remember correctly, some online games like Diablo II n...

Re: Sierra's AGI CPC Disk Protection

This is an interesting read. Do you know when Sierra stopped using on-disk copy protection? My copies of Police Quest I and Manhunter 1 & 2 never asked for an original disk. While the KyroFlux can read all bytes it was primarily designed for Amiga disks. It has trouble with PC CPC tracks. My underst...

Re: NWN question...

I'd recommend an ad blocker as well. I've had "regular" sites try to take me to a "Your Flash Player needs an update" page. I thought I was pretty good with avoiding malware, but I think I got infected a few months ago through something like this. It looked like IE was giving an error message. I eve...

Re: NWN question...

In the meantime... notbobsmith, I would suggest you scan your computer for viruses...? Just to make sure? I'm no expert on these matters, but that would seem logical to me. What do the rest of you think? I have the Platinum Edition on CD, but I'm currently using the version I bought from GOG when i...

Here is the link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1bzpdi87tj0ha3t/NWNEnglish1.69HotUUpdate.exe?dl=0 Rath told me that he still had trouble downloading it. I was able to download it just fine. Could some check to see if there is a problem with th...

Re: Data Preservation & Imaging Diskettes

Note: I have recently acquired a KryoFlux board and will add more to this post as I become more familiar with using it. Excellent. That is great to hear. I got one about a year ago and it works very well. I was surprised that almost all of my floppies I have were still in good working order. And it...
