Re: The One Thing That Stuck Out For Me About Codename: Icem
The "use the right word or else" parser. This is still fresh in my mind after my playthrough last year. I don't know how many times I was stalled because it wanted the word "orders" instead of "envelope" or "papers" or some other nonsense.

Re: Your Favorite Sierra Memory or/EDIT: Memories. <3
Going back to game memories, I still remember getting Police Quest I (AGI) for Christmas and playing through it pretty much over the entire Christmas break. I think it was kind of bittersweet when I finished because it was over. Looking back, I think it was the best game of the AGI era and my favori...

Re: My Phantasmagoria playthrough
You have to use the poker on the tomb. You can't enter the tomb after stabbing Don with said poker in the dressing room. I tried that. It seems that if you already have a crucifix, Don always catches you after you leave the tomb. I tried a few other variations on the order of picking things up, and...

Re: Cultural identities of the settings in adventure-RPGs
The Frost Giant spoke in rhyme reminiscent of old Norse poetry or like Beowulf . Really? I've read some old Norse poetry, as well as Beowulf in the original old English; it doesn't sound anything like Brauggi. Neither Beowulf or any old Norse poetry I've read comes even close to rhyming.]. Rhyming ...

Re: Choose my next adventure
So I have three (counting Rath) for Conquests of Camelot, one for Lighthouse and one for Phantasmagoria 2. So Conquests of Camelot it will be! Should be interesting.

Re: Cultural identities of the settings in adventure-RPGs
I did appreciate that about QfG. It made the games more interesting than if they were just generic fantasy. I do think QfG1 is the weakest in this sense, though. It's not just a Germanic setting (which would include Scandinavia and England); it's a specifically German setting, as indicated by the n...

Re: Choose my next adventure
Having just completed Phantasmagoria, I'm ready for my next challenge: The Adventures of Willy Beamish The Black Cauldron Conquests of Camelot Conquests of the Longbow Heart of China Lighthouse Phantasmagoria 2 Thanks for ordering your suggestions the last time, Tawmis, but I'll still keep this open...

Re: My Phantasmagoria playthrough
It's such a clear trap, the wide open darkroom door that was closed from chapters 2 to 6... The Hintkeeper would make suggestions to pick up the items before entering there too. I doubt many people walked straight in. But you don't expect it to be a point of no return. I was just going to check it ...

Re: My Phantasmagoria playthrough
Tawm dude! Play through the chase! Best part of the game! Start chapter 7, get the hammer and poker , walk in the darkroom and grab everything with Don hot on your tail! Chase Hints For More Fun: During the chase you have a more or less linear path with a fork at the ground floor secret passage. Du...

Re: My Phantasmagoria playthrough
So I just finished Phantasmagoria. It was pretty good. Maybe better than I expected. The game itself was relatively easy. After Chapter 1, I breezed through 2 through 6 fairly quickly. The story was somewhat generic and predictable, but executed well enough to be interesting. Performances were pret...

Re: My Phantasmagoria playthrough
You can run out of the darkroom and return later to get the book. In all places where you can pick up an item, you'll have to use a weapon against your defense. In a few of these rooms you can or must hide in order to use them. You can only use said weapon once in that room. The game's definitely w...

Re: My Phantasmagoria playthrough
So I made it to chapter 7 and started "the chase". At some point I quit and found that my savegame was gone! At first I was angry because it only keeps one save and I don't have a backup except for the one I posted here, but then I remembered that you could choose which chapter to start on. So I cho...

Re: Gabriel Knight 2 audio issue
I think the white noise you are hearing is a result of the audio being played back at a lower bitrate than what can be done now. It was the best that they could do with the technology at the time and manifests itself as a persistent hiss. It gets drowned out by the music (which is probably being gen...

Re: My Phantasmagoria playthrough
Where is the general store located ? I couldn't get the audio to fail at my place with your savegame :( Thanks for giving 75000 cycles a try. Which dialog in gabriel knight or in general ? In my savegame, you are standing right outside the general store. After you go in, speak with the man. Then pa...
