Re: When Elder Scrolls copies D&D...

Uggh. It seems all big name companies inevitably resort to plagiarism because they're just so unoriginal. Like CBS ripping off the AGS adventure game Tardigrades for Star Trek Discovery. I've read a little more about the tardigrade thing with DIS and it is possible that it may have been a coinciden...

Re: Plastics! Plastics plastics plastics...

Hmm, interesting. You mentioned that members of the Executive branch (e.g. the various Secretaries) are confirmed by the Senate, and that the Justices of the Supreme Court are approved by Congress - can the Senate or the Congress disapprove? What happens if the Senate or the Congress don't agree wi...

Re: Plastics! Plastics plastics plastics...

Okay. Here goes. Congress: The Senate: As you probably know, the US has fifty states. Each state gets to elect two senators. They serve six year terms and elections are held every two years, so every two years one-third of the seats are up for election. The House of Representatives: There are 435 me...

Re: Plastics! Plastics plastics plastics...

That takes care of the House of Representatives and the Senate. I told you it was complicated. ;) It's different, but not all that much more complicated than the US system. Then, the leader of the largest party in parliament forms the next government. The voters don't get to choose on that. Technic...

Re: Plastics! Plastics plastics plastics...

I'm not sure what you mean by "single stream". Can you explain, please? Recycling in the US has always been relatively low. So in the last few years, a lot of municipalities introduced "single stream" recycling. Rather than someone separating recyclables in different bins (like what most of ...

Re: Plastics! Plastics plastics plastics...

Yes, your local "greenie" was out of line. As with everything, it all comes down to moderation and there are few simple answers. Way back when, plastic bags were used to replace paper shopping bags due to concerns about deforestation. Plastics are, to a point, recyclable. The problem is that the US ...

Re: We finally took a photo of a black hole

The problem lies when policy decisions are made. If the science supports a conclusion, but it is rejected by someone who just doesn't "believe" it without offering a rational argument as to why, that is dangerous. "Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not to his own facts." Ohhhhhh boy I co...

Re: We finally took a photo of a black hole

I don't totally disrespect people who question stuff we take for granted. It means they're being honest with themselves and learning to not believe just anything and everything they're told. Proving that the Earth is round, for instance, is not an easy task (on your own). But the extremists who tot...

Re: We finally took a photo of a black hole

I love stuff like this. I'm torn between this and LIGO as to which is a more impressive technical feat. But then a picture is worth a thousand words.

Re: The Hero-U Help Thread

So Hero-U clearly takes place in the same universe as QFG. How did they do that without running afoul of some lawyers? I think, it runs along a few different lines... The names are fairly "generic" (as in not "iconic" in regards to say - if they had used "Bilbo Baggins" - good chance everyone knows...

Re: The Hero-U Help Thread

Notbob, you don't have to be back in time for dinner (or bedtime) if you don't want to. :) That's the beauty of Hero-U exploration: once you can start to explore the sea caves (roughly day 13-14), very little happens during dinner that you need to know about. Of course, if you do something signific...

Re: The Hero-U Help Thread

I just finished Hero-U. It was okay. I was kind of hoping for a little more... something. Once I got past my little hiccup with the password to enter the sea caves, things opened up pretty readily. I managed to complete all of the side quests. It had a pretty good story and the characters were great...
