Updating your drivers can eliminate conflicts, add features and increase stability. Updated drivers may also have application-specific bug fixes. Most manufacturers regularly update their drivers. You can find the latest drivers for your hardware on the manufacturer's website, or by contacting the manufacturer of your hardware. You can also try Googling for it.
To the identify the hardware so you can obtain and update the right driver for your hardware, do this:
Windows 9x
- Right-click the My Computer icon on your desktop.
- Click on Properties.
- Click the Device Manager tab.
- Click the "+" symbol in front of the category listing of the hardware type that you wish to update and the hardware listing will drop down.
- Note the type and model of your hardware.
Windows 2000 or XP
- Right-click the My Computer icon (inside the Start Menu for XP.)
- Click on Properties.
- Click on the Hardware tab.
- Click the Device Manager button.
- Click the "+" symbol in front of the category listing of the hardware type that you wish to update and the hardware listing will drop down.
- Note the type and model of your hardware.
Download the most recent driver and follow the manufacturer's instructions to install the update.
